Read to Be Ready Summer School Camp

Martin Primary School is very excited that we have been awarded the Read to be Ready Reading Initiative Grant to help prevent summer learning loss. The grant is intended to target economically disadvantaged students entering first, second, and third grade. The goal of our camp is to develop a student’s love for reading over the summer months by providing them with free, high-quality books. This program is unlike the typical summer programs of the past, that are more skills based with a school-like atmosphere, this program will be more like camp or “Kid’s College”, including hands-on learning activities, field trips, with fun and engaging weekly themes. We were able to fund six teachers to serve 30 students.

The camp will run from Tuesday, May 30th through Monday, June 26th. The time will be from 7:30 to 1:30 daily. Attendance is very important. The teachers for the summer program are Jessica Devries, Becky Jackson, Lori Grissom, Ginger Liles, Abbie McClure, and Angela Sams. Lea Ann Crowe is the Program Director.
